I really love David's Place. The food is great, although I find the highly spiced lamb and beef dishes to be the best. The bread IS bland and sour, but it's supposed to be - that, actually is one of the reasons the spiced dishes are so much tastier. They can hold their own and don't really rely on the bread-utensil to flavor them, but the bread does add a little "oomph".
The mild dishes are very sour, I think many are fermented. On their own they're pretty ho-hum, but make a nice counterpoint to the spicier meat and lentil dishes, in a way similar to the bread. I can see how people unused to eating lacto-fermented dishes might not like them, but they are excellent if you're into that kind of thing.
The tea and coffee are to die for (fresh, spiced, and not sweet!), and David and his staff have always been friendly and helpful for my friends and myself. If you have a fondness for Indian food, this is definitely something to try for some variety, as there are notable similarities (especially to north Indian food).
My friends and I find it to be quite tasty and unique, and I definitely recommend seeing what David's Place is all about.

Excellent and authentic food! We were in Ethiopia a couple months ago and David's ranks right up there with some of the cuisine we had abroad. Plus the owner is super nice! Also great lunch buffet if you're vegetarian.

It was not very good! I felt the only good thing was our service and the ice tea. It was a new experience for me and glad I tried it, but won' t be back. Very little flavor and the sour bread ... was just that SOUR and cold. Might have been better if it were warm and served w/ a sauce or something. I of course used it to eat w/ my entree but it just wasn't tasty at all.

Great hospitality and ambiance; the owner is so personable, friendly, interesting, attentive to diners\' needs, and willing to chat with patrons who want to know more about the cuisine and its land of origin. The coffee and tea are fantastic. The entrees are fresh (many are safe for celiacs--what a rare treat that is!). Not all at our table appreciated the new, exotic flavors, but anyone wanting a taste of Africa will find the real thing here.

Great Food and Great hospitality.
We took our extended family of 14 to David's Place in December of '06. The hospitality was fantastic (we did call ahead to warn them that so many were coming) The food was delicious and obviously prepared fresh for us. Additionally we were pleasantly surprised to find something that everyone liked (some of the kids were worried). Be sure to try the Ethiopian coffee but tell them you will want to in advance, because they roast the beans fresh for each pot, an authentic Ethopian coffee pot which is brought to your table. Overall, I and my entire family, highly recommend this restaurant.
